In 1829, a locomotive designed by British engineer George
Stephenson, won a competition sponsored by the Liverpool and
Manchester Railway. This performance stimulated the building of
other locomotives and the extension of railway lines. In the
following year, the first locomotives built in the United States
were put into operation. Designers added supporting wheels and
counterbalances to stabilize the locomotive, and they
experimented with varying arrangements of driving and
stabilizing wheels.
In Myanmar, Steam locomotives were major runners of Myanmar
Railways till the time of dieselization at 4-1-1958. But they
are being service up to date to show their enthusiastic services
for customers.

We have some regular steam train services and chartered
trains can be arranged for some journey on demand. We are happy
to serve you with ST - 754, steam locomotive on Yangon suburban
circular railway. It has three teak coaches each with a capacity
of 10-12 persons. The journey around Yangon (28.5 miles) will
take 3 hours. All on the way you will see the city developments,
nature of the people living nearby and green environs. It's a
pleasure also to invite you to visit steam locomotive sheds
located in Bago, Mokpalin, Moktama (Martabin), Pyinmana and
