Day-1 Yangon Arrival

Upon arrival, our representative will welcome you at the airport and transfer to your hotel. After lunch, sightseeing in Yangon. Sightseeing inclusive of Sule pagoda, independent monument, city hall and busy downtown – continues to Chaukhtattkyi huge reclining Buddha Image, and orchid garden. Overnight at the Kandawgyi Palace Hotel in Yangon with panoramic view of Shwedagon Pagoda and the scenic Royal Lake.

Day-2 Yangon – Mandalay – Homelin by plane

Transfer to Yangon Airport by our tour guide and from the airport you’ll be under the care of the festival organizing body. Arrive at Homelin Airport and proceed by truck passing through the tropical forest and continue by boat to Htamanthi village where base camp is. Leave Htamanthi village in the evening 1P.M by truck passing through the (41Miles) uphill journey along the winding road through the Naga mountain ranges wooded with tropical forest and arrive at Laeshi in the afternoon. Accommodation in dormitory type camp as arranged and allotted by the local authority and festival organizing body.

Day-3 Layshi Camp

Visit rehearsal dances of the different Naga cultural delegations. Study Naga handicraft exhibition at the venue of the New Year Festival. Naga pole erection ceremony and opening of Naga Traditional field. Enjoy the Naga Youth association in the evening and their way of life. Nightstop at Layshi camp.

Day-4 Opening Ceremony

Enjoy the performances of Naga traditional drum, sport compitation. Participate at the opening ceremony of the Naga New Year Festival, entertainment with the Naga Traditional Dances around big bonfire. Nightstop at Layshi camp.

Day-5 Layshi – Htamanthi

Drive back by local truck (5hrs drive) Htamanthi in the early morning and continue by boat to Homelin. Arrive at Homelin in the late afternoon and night stop as arrange by the local authorities and festival organizing body.
End of the service for Naga New Year Festival.

Practical Information:

Warm clothes such as thick pullover, jerkin and wind breaker (k-way will be useful as it is cold and windy in the high mountains) torch light, good walking shoes, anti-mosquito lotion or spray, medicine for your personal use, medicine for eye and throat infection / irritation (cause by dusty road), hot water bag is very useful at night time when the temperature is low and wind is icy.

The festival is organized by local authorities in collaboration with festival organizing body for the welfare of the Naga community. Transportation for the visitors by trucks together with your luggage and other commodities is a real adventure along the unpaved bumpy road (check the driving time and the journey). Protect the camera and video camera well away from the dust.

The accommodation is rather dormitory type in the long houses or in the classroom of the schools. Toilet and shower are for common use. Hot water will be provided and sanitation will be taken care of the workers of festival organizing body.

The festival is organized by local authority and in collaboration with festival organizing body for the welfare of the Naga Community.

The Naga Land is a restricted area. The foreign visitors are allowed to go there only during their New Year festival.

Day-6 Homelin – Mawlike by boat

Early morning we leave by express boat along 329 miles Chindwin river to Mawlike. We will see many colorful Himsa birds, logging boats, fisherman’s life on Chindwin, for sure it’s a relaxing journey. Overnight at Mawlike.

Day-7 Mawlike – Kalaywa - Monywa

Today, leaving the Mawlike area, we travel down the Chindwin River to Monywa and had a chance to meet with locals and rural lifes. In the evening time we arrive to Monywa. It is a major port center for trade for agricultural produce. Overnight at Win Unity Hotel.

Day-8 Monywa – Nyaunggan – Po Win Taung Caves.

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to the Nyaungan Bronze-age Cultural heritage site, BUDALIN township, about 28 miles from MONYWA. It is an hour’s drive from MONYWA to NYAUNGGAN Village, all on asphalt road. There are five excavation sites so far which contain human skeletal remains dating back thousands of years, and also cooking pots, stone rings, beads, socketed bronze axes and some animal bones. This is the first discovery of a Bronze-age Burial site in Myanmar. In the afternoon, continue by road to Shwe Ba hill and Po Win Taung Caves. Return to Monywa and overnight at Win Unity Hotel.

Day-9 Monywa – Mandalay

Today, morning on return journey (135 Km) to Mandalay we visit the Thanboddhay Paya with its 845 smaller stupas, bodhi Tahtaung, Po Khaung Taung, Aung Sakkya Pagoda and view the 300ft long reclining Buddha. Lunch at Local restaurant in Sagaing.
Continue sightseeing in Sagaing, a former capital of the Shan kingdom in the 14th century, is located on the bank of Irrawaddy river not far from MANDALAY and has many interesting stupas scattered over SAGAING Hill. Today it’s mostly known as a religious center. The highlights include THABYEDAN Fort, TUPAYON PAYA, AUNGMYELAWKA PAYA, ONHMIN THONZE, SOON U PONYA SHIN PAYA, HSINMYASHIN PAYA, and KAUNGHMUDAW PAGODA. We also visit the former royal capital of INWA, founded in 1364 which lasted nearly 400 years. Highlights include the ‘leaning tower of Ava’, the MAHA AUNGMYE BONZAN, which is a brick-and-stucco monastery, and the elegant teakwood monastery BAGAYA KYAUNG. See sunset from one of the ideal side guided by our tour guide.
Drive to Mandalay and overnight at Mandalay City Hotel.

Day-10 Mandalay – and Ancient city AMARAPURA

Travel to the former royal capital of AMARAPURA. Highlights include MAHAGANDAYON monastery, which is a school for young monks and U BEIN bridge which is more than two centuries old and at 1.2 km is the longest teakwood span in the world. Continue sightseeing in Mandalay, our tour guide will take you to show the way of life and handicrafts such as gold leaf production, marble sculptors, Mahamuni temple, embroidery work and marionette production, wood carving and bronze casting. Afternoon visit to golden monastery, Kuthodaw Pagoda and Mandalay hill. Night stop at Mandalay City Hotel.

Day-11 Mandalay – Bagan by flight

Breakfast at the hotel. Leave for Mandalay airport to take flight (#----) to (BAGAN ).
The day will be devoted to explore the Archaeological cite of Bagan, lacquer wear productions, and of course rural life. The major temples and Pagodas reflecting Buddhist art and architecture of 11th to the 13th centuries are the highlights of the visit by private car / mini coach which will be implemented by our tour guide. Night stop at Old Bagan Hotel.

Day-12 Popa and Bagan

Morning drive to Mt. Popa which rose from the ground in a massive earthquake in 442 BC. Mt. Popa is famous as the abode of the Nats (Spirit Gods) and for its panoramic view of the local tropical region. On the way back to BAGAN we can visit a toddy palm juice production plant.
In the afternoon we continue our sightseeing with visits to BAGAN unique pagodas, including Nagayon, an elegant and well preserved temple containing many Buddhas, the main one which is twice life size and shelters under the hood of a huge serpent. We will also see ABEYADANA PAHTO, of which the primary interest is the fine frescos; and NANPAYA, probably Bagan’s first gu-style shrine. Among others, we also see MINGALAZEDI, the very last of the Late period monuments built before the kingdom’s decline, on which we’ll see the sun setting.

Day-13 Bagan – Yangon by flight

Free day - Breakfast at the hotel. Departure, transfer to the airport to take the flight (flight#/time) back to Yangon. Free day at leisure. From your downtown location you can easily visit many local sights (map and general information will be provided) by walking, by taxi or even by trishaw. Overnight at Hotel.

Day-14 Departure to Bangkok

Before Departure, Complimentary Trishaw ride (three wheeled bicycle taxi for two) available at 50th Street Restaurant, if you wish. Your ‘driver’ will take you on a leisurely and scenic trip through the southeast downtown area. You may chose to go to the STRAND HOTEL (for your free drink- One Free Sour Rum Mandalay with canapé’s at the famous STAND HOTEL). Enjoy this delicious drink in the ambiance of one of Asia’s most elegant and historical hotels.
